To the pasture in the sky...

W.B. SamIAm, our co-founder and THE Backyard
Horse, passed away on June 22, 2006. His partner's collection of extra tack for him was the inspiration for this site.
Sam had many jobs in his lifetime, from his first job as
a lawn mower, to his final work with the children at Rainbow's End, He was one of the favorite horses in the program, not because he was cute (just another bay TB), but because he liked his work, his home, and all the attention that was paid to him. It has always been said that Sam would die happy if he were eating and being groomed at the same time, and he was.
All of our lives pass so quickly, as did Sam's. He was
with us for 18 of his 24 years, a rare thing in today's horse community. Most of us trade in our horses almost as regularly as we trade in our vehicles. The lesson that Sam would share is an old one: If something is worth having, it's worth taking care of. |
